Do you spend time in the Word of God? Do you put into practice what you read, or do you rely on someone else to feed you spiritually?
In this episode, Jeremy and Emily discuss the words of the apostle Paul where he reprimands the Church of Corinthians for being infants in their faith… Drinking milk instead of eating solid foods. Today’s Christian culture has a problem with consumerism Christianity where, often times, they rely on the paid ministers to do the work while they sit and watch. Jeremy and Emily will discuss this and how you can change that culture starting with you!
Imagine you are meeting several buddies at a fine steakhouse for a birthday celebration, and as the server comes to take orders, you are surprised to hear each of your friends ordering—rather than filet mignon—a glass of milk for the main course. Not only would you wonder why a group of grown men would order milk for a meal, you would probably feel embarrassed.
Why, then, has this very thing become so acceptable when it comes to our faith? There are too many followers of Jesus who have been in church for decades—some for their entire lives—and yet are still nourishing themselves with “milk,” essentially expecting the church staff to hold a baby bottle for them so they can fill their bellies on Sundays.
It is your mission and honor to bring the men and women in your group into high challenge regarding this topic. Remind your group that we are not spectators on the sidelines in our faith journeys, being fed like babies from a bottle! Rather, we are called to take ownership of our own spiritual nutrition by studying and feeding ourselves on the “meat” found in Scripture.
