As a Christian, are you called to multiply your faith? Isn’t that the job of a pastor or paid minister? Would God really expect normal, ordinary people to do this? How did the church in Acts multiply so quickly? Is multiplication all about numbers? What about discipleship? Have you ever discipled anyone?
In today’s podcast, Jeremy and Emily explore and discuss many of these questions. They talk through some practical ways you can walk out multiplication in your own spiritual lives through discipleship. They talk about fears that may hold you back, as well as practical ways to accept the high challenge calling left to all of us by Jesus. Discover why multiplication is more than just numbers and how, despite your thoughts, YOU are qualified to disciple others.
Multiplication is a core value of OM, not because it is a growth strategy, but because Jesus modeled and commanded it. In session 8, you will have the opportunity to bring challenge around this topic. Much of what we do as leaders in OM is toward the purpose of changing the current culture of Christianity. When we discuss multiplication, we push against the consumerist culture that has become embedded in the Christian community. Christians today often think of “ministers” as those being paid by the church to be on the stage on Sundays. However, as you discuss Ephesians 4:11-12, the apostle Paul makes it clear that those we call ministers are actually the equippers, given "for equipping the saints for the work of the ministry." (And we are all “the saints” in this context.) God intends for each of us to do the work of the ministry.
Hear me again, this way: All. Of. Us.
When we take the call of ministry to heart, our lives will be multiplied as we build up those around us.
