In today’s world, “love” is everywhere. It’s a greeting and a goodbye. It’s the opposite of hate, or even a requirement to be allowed to hate something else. It’s some people’s identity!
The Word of God tells us this, that God IS love. Listen in to this podcast on the discipleship principle: Love Others. Jeremy and Emily will share some thoughts on why this is hard, and how to do it better.
This session tends to scare guys. Let’s be honest, the thought of talking about love for an hour with a group of guys does not sound like something any man would sign up for. Why is that? Well, the answer is probably another three-part session!
Jesus, however, makes it very clear that the greatest command is loving Him with all our hearts, souls, and minds. I read this verse and think, okay I can work toward that. Then He hits us with the second greatest commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” That is when I realize Jesus has never shopped at Walmart! All joking aside, discipleship starts to feel a lot more challenging for me when I read that verse. And yet this is what a disciple looks like: Love. When we grow in following the greatest commandment, Jesus gives us the grace to walk out the second. Without the first, the second is quite impossible. Once again this brings us to intimacy with Jesus. Encourage your men to be known for love, rather than what we stand against. This will change the world.
