We often equate knowing God to how well we know the Bible. While this is certainly important in our Christian walk, it is only part of knowing Him. In this episode, Emily and Jeremy discuss discipleship principle #2: Know Him. Listen in as they discuss what it really means to KNOW God.
While I was teaching high school, one of my students asked me this question, “Do you know who I am?” I don’t recall my exact response, but I do remember what I wanted to say; let's just say it probably wouldn’t be appropriate for this discussion.
As pompous as it is for a student to say such a thing to a teacher, it is a valid question for God to ask. The answer may be scary for many believers. This is the main point of session 19, that as disciples we must know Him. While this is a very straightforward session, it is also a challenging one. Knowing Him is more than having knowledge of the Word of God; likewise, it is more than simply having intimacy with Him. To be disciples who make disciples, we must know and pursue Him in both of these aspects, having both head-knowledge and heart-knowledge. As you lead this session, it is important to point out that it is not about obtaining a certain level of knowledge in order to disciple others. If so, a lack of knowledge would become an excuse, focusing on our own abilities rather than on the power of the Holy Spirit in and through our lives. Instead, it is important that we are intentional about knowing Him in both knowledge of His Word and intimacy with Him personally.
