What are the things you value most in your life? Did they require sacrifice? Can you highly value something that takes no level of sacrifice? What about your faith?
Sacrifice is a word that can scare a lot of us. Jesus calls us to follow Him, and tells us it will require sacrifice. Why do you think sacrifice is part of His plan? In this episode, Jeremy and Emily talk about what sacrifice entails, and why it is a good thing.
Session 21 brings us to a fun and popular topic: Sacrifice.
Ok, well maybe this is not that accurate a description of this topic. While I actually believe it should be, as I write this I am not sure I want to believe it. My human nature fights against sacrifice; however, I cannot think of a single accomplishment I’ve achieved in my life that didn’t require sacrifice.
Why would this be any different in our walk with Jesus? Sure, we have done nothing to earn salvation, (which is all about His sacrifice), but our sanctification (becoming more like Him) is far from being devoid of sacrifice on our part. Show me someone who has sacrificed greatly for the Kingdom and I will show you someone who greatly values their relationship with and faith in Jesus.
Warning, this is a big trick!
The trick is that I have never met a single person who sacrificed greatly in discipling others in the Kingdom who did not also gain much more than they gave. In most tricks, we are the ones who get “played” in the end, but not in this one. The winner is the one who is willing to lose and give it all.
